Uriel is a fiery archangel that was first introduced to me through Doreen Virtue's angel card oracle.

Assertiveness is a keyword that comes to mind when I hold Uriel in my awareness. As a naturally shy person I have learned to work with Uriel to overcome my inner blockages which have included self-criticism, self-doubt, and timidness.

This piece celebrates of the angelic alchemy of Heru. The original seed drawing is a man wearing a loincloth and Egyptian-style collar. The figure stands in relaxed position with his attention focused upward.

During his first incarnation, this art piece was entitled "Man in Golden Flames".
Dominant colors were red and white with accents of gold surrounding the figure.

About six years later the transmutation occurred and "Man in Golden Flames" became "Christ Michael".

During his final stages of (re)creation, angelic wings and a crown were bestowed and multiple layers of "Golden Aura" applied. "Golden Aura" is the name of a new paint mixture we created from combinations of iridescent gold and flourescent orange acrylic plus one secret ingredient. Ballpoint pen strokes articulate the figure's brilliant new form.

Strong Hades could not keep his own,
But all slid to confusion.

A sad self-knowledge withering fell
On the beauty of Uriel;
In heaven once eminent, the god
Withdrew that hour into his cloud;
Whether doom'd to long gyration
In the sea of generation,
Or by knowledge grown too bright
To hit the nerve of feebler sight.
Straightway a forgetting wind
Stole over the celestial kind,
And their lips the secret kept,
If in ashes the fire-seed slept.
But, now and then, truth-speaking things
Shamed the angels' veiling wings;
And, shrilling from the solar course,
Or from fruit of chemic force,
Procession of a soul in matter,
Or the speeding change of water,
Or out of the good of evil born,
Came Uriel's voice of cherub scorn,

The Ra Materials Collection is a strong example of my belief that the ART is what is the most important element of art appreciation.
{NOT frames. NOT people pleasing, ass kissing, wine sipping, competing and politicking.} <-- These sociopolitical acrobatics are entertaining to an extent (and quite expensive too). However in a world where "artists are a dime a dozen", and most artists are "starving" "crazy" or "blocked", the people in that world are obviously due for an upgrade in values.

The second most important element in art appreciation, is APPRECIATION. Such appreciation may take the form of paying artists money, or trading provisions (quality food, water, clothing, shelter, transportation and art-making materials) with artists in exchange for the art, the time, the life force they each invest to create and explain their work. Period.

My gratitude to all who have and continue to show substantial appreciation for art and our work! You know who you are.

I've been drawing since I could hold a pencil. In the fourth Grade my teacher Ms. Daniels invited me to draw large dragons on the chalk board. My parents bought a set of Encyclopedia Britannica and I kept it in my bedroom, using it to look up whatever I chose to learn more about. My interests included animals and other natural phenomena. I naturally developed interests in spiritualism, gemstone lore and the occult by age eleven. Lucid dreaming, self hypnosis and astral projection were some of my passions of puberty. At age sixteen, I chose to create art "to glorify God", as suggested by my martial arts instructor. Specializing in "spiritual art" has been financially unrewarding and at times frustrating, however I'm glad I did choose this path. It makes being an artist alot more than what the public or I could ever imagine it to be. Its being true to myself first and foremost before anyone else comes into the picture. Authenticity is important to me. And so is my sovereignty. I know I have alot to offer society, and I make offerings consistently and dedicate myself to creating the best work I can. My work is inspired by alchemy (AKA "The Art"), Christology, cosmology, spiritual culture and metaphysics.

My techniques involve graphic design, drawing, painting, collage and new media.

My style of expressions is best described as "syncretic".

"Syncretism consists of the attempt to reconcile disparate or contrary beliefs, often while melding practices of various schools of thought. The term may refer to attempts to merge and analogise several originally discrete traditions, especially in the theology and mythology of religion, and thus assert an UNDERLYING UNITY allowing for an INCLUSIVE approach to other faiths.

Overt syncretism in folk belief may show cultural acceptance of an alien or previous tradition, but the "other" cult may survive or infiltrate without authorized syncresis nevertheless. For example, some Conversos developed a sort of cult for martyr-victims of the Spanish Inquisition, thus incorporating elements of Catholicism while resisting it.

Some religious movements have embraced overt syncretism, such as the case of the adoption of Shintō elements into Buddhism. Others have strongly rejected it as devaluing precious and genuine distinctions; examples of this include post-Exile Judaism and Islam.

Syncretism tends to facilitate coexistence and constructive interaction between different cultures (intercultural competence), a factor that has recommended it to rulers of multi-ethnic realms."

"A few years ago, a synthesis of Native American and Asian imagery occurred to me. I produced a series of art pieces with figures that are reminiscent of kachina. Earth Mother AKA Geisha Gaia is one of those pieces. The San Luis Valley Regional Medical Center bought "Earth Mother" in 2007(?). For some time I had not known the exact tribal origin of the imagery that inspired the creation of my "Royal Family" art collection. Today I received confirmation. I was inspired to research the Zuni indians after studying a combination of my natal astrology and sabian symbols. A mysterious connection with Shumei International Institute's Crestone temple kept me scratching my head thru most of my time living in Crestone, CO. Its a cultural mystery that is coming together now, and hopefully my life along with it. My inner pilgrimage continues with beauty."

Butterflies and Moths in Contemporary Zuni Art

This temporary exhibit highlights the role of butterflies in the belief system and art of contemporary Zuni people, Native Americans who live in the high desert of the American southwest. Many Zuni traditional arts feature butterflies and moths, and this tradition continues today in their fine arts, crafts and tourist art forms. The objects in this exhibit are from the collection of Gary Noel Ross, a lepidopterist and ethnobiologist with a lifelong interest in indigenous cultures.

The Eliica (or the Electric Lithium-Ion Car) is a battery electric vehicle prototype, or concept car designed by a team at Keio University in Tokyo, led by Professor Hiroshi Shimizu. The 5.1 metre (16.7 feet) car runs on a lithium-ion battery and can accelerate from 0-100 km/h (62 mph) in four seconds. In 2004, the Eliica reached a speed of 370 km/h (230 mph) on Italy's Nardo High Speed Track. The team's goal is to exceed 400 km/h (248 mph), breaking the record set by today's street-legal gasoline-powered vehicles.

The Eliica weighs in at 2400 kg (5291 lbs) and seats the driver and three passengers. The body of the four door car has a futuristic, bullet shape design which was tested in a wind tunnel. The front doors open forward and the rear doors open upward like wings. The car's platform contains 4 tracks of 80 batteries, which make up one third of the vehicle's cost. They currently require about 10 hours of recharging from empty to full charge, and can be easily charged off of a residential power grid.

The car has eight wheels enabling it to be closer to the ground for better traction. Each of the wheels has a 60 kW (80 hp) electric motor, giving a 480 kW (640 hp) eight wheel drive which can tackle all kinds of road surfaces. The four front wheels steer. The electric motors mean that the Eliica can deliver a smooth acceleration free from gear shifts of about 0.8 g. Each wheel contains a disc brake and employs a regenerative brake system to recover energy.

My Philosophy
{first published January 19, 2005}
by MR. TUFANI MAYFIELD {Spiritual Artist.}

"I serve God/dess through my artistic career thereby creating holistic abundance."

My name is Tufani. This word Tufani means "storm" in several eastern and African languages, including Hindi, Urdu and Swahili. The theme of the storm has followed me since childhood. An "imaginary" dragon named Tempest... A fascination with thunderstorms and tornadoes.... Identifying with the windy essence of the storm, I chose my name at age 20. I believe that the wind symbolizes unseen forces AKA spirit, qi, prana, astrological and electromagnetic influences. In addition my personal life manifests many wind-like experiences including early interests in spirituality and mysticism, wanderlust, imagination, spontaneous changes of direction, cultural diversity and adaptation to changes in circumstance while maintaining my God/ess-given essence.

"MY" LIFE-STYLE:
I have studied and incorporated into my life the spiritual teachings of ancient Egypt (Kamit), India, China, Native America, and the list continues to expand as God/dess reveals Herself to me everywhere in increasing Forms. Delving into the deepest and darkest places within me have revealed innumerable doorways into the omnipresent Heart of the Divine.

At this time in my life, I choose to edify the Feminine Aspect of the Divine. I do not need to look outside of myself for heroes, leaders, teachers or gurus. I do not need to "go to church" to find fellowship. Each day of my life involves different interactions with God's creations.

I nurture my own physical body with dietary, herbal, movement, yoga and qigong observances. I massage my mental and emotional bodies with prayer, vibrational, meditative and ceremonial rites. Part of my Purpose this lifetime is to observe and flow in accord with the rhythms of Nature. I therefore live with an eye and an ear to the cosmological. Not as an academic pursuit, but as a Life-Style. My timing and scheduling is often with an awareness of personal, interpersonal and environmental alchemy.

"MY" ART:
It is my choice as an artist to Serve as an instrument of the Divine. For me art is a means of communicating and transmitting energy. The type of energy I choose to radiate through art has its origin in the Divine. My creative process is a prayer and a ceremony to God/dess. The resulting artwork is prayer crystallized. My art is considered "spiritual art". It is also a form of communication. I believe communication can happen "transverbally". Through movement, sound, intention, shape, color and Timing. I paint, I dance, I write. Essentially I receive creative Thoughts and Ideas. Most importantly therefore, I maintain receptivity to Divine inspiration and guidance. Some of my artistic influences include Romare Bearden, Jean Michel Basquiat, Gustav Klimt, Keith Haring, Jackson Pollock, Susan Seddon Boulet, Diego Rivera, Jacob Lawrence, Alex Grey, Bryan deFlores, Andy Warhol, Thomas Kinkade, Ansel Adams, Walt Disney, Jay Barker, Sherry E. Allen.

"MY" BUSINESS:
My vision is to create business, income and work that flows according to the lifestyle, needs and circumstances of people, not vice versa. Personally, the business system I have created for myself flows like the wind, adapting gracefully to different geographic, political and cultural terrains. Like the wind, unseen because its essence is informational, conceptual. And of course, Spiritual. Like the Wind my expression is evident, my nature distinct and my manifestations many.

I do not believe competition is necessary for human survival. We needn't compete with one another and we needn't compete with Nature. Instead I choose collaboration over competition. I do not believe I need to be anything other than what I was created to be. What I AM. And conversely nobody can replace or compete with me. We learn from and inspire one another. Through that exchange we learn to better serve as unique expressions of the Divine by honoring our interdependence and interrelatedness.

Everyday I develop knowledge, information and creativity into liquid assets that descend like a nourishing Rain. I am developing a streamline geographically independent business that runs efficiently and sustainably with services that expand the thinking of people and organizations in holistic, cultural and spiritual directions. The purpose of my business is nothing less than to support our evolution and to help re-member Utopia for every One.

Location

Crestone is located in the vast 5,000 square mile San Luis Valley of Colorado and sits on one of the largest freshwater aquifers on earth. At over 7,500 feet above sea level and ringed on three sides by snow-peaked mountains, some looming over 14,000 feet above, the Valley is the highest Alpine region in the world.The air is pure. The terrain is a fusion of Alpine and high desert, and the surrounding mountains insulate its unique climate. The soil is a mixture of sand, clay, cobble and rock. There are pristine streams, with greenbelts of aspen, cottonwoods, and ponderosas. Aspen is thick on the mountains, while pine and junipers sparsely stud the foothills and valley floor below.At such a height above sea level, the weather can be harsh and dramatic, with extreme temperatures, intense sunlight, heavy snows, heavy wind, dust storms, hard rains, lightening strikes, and wildfires. Yet, the Valley averages about 330 days of sunshine a year. In much of the Crestone area, annual rainfall averages 7 inches. In the foothills, precipitation is nearly double that of the valleys and temperatures are warmer. Subzero Fahrenheit temperatures can occur at night during the winter months. The coldest month is January, averaging highs of 34.7 degrees Fahrenheit with lows of 8.2 degrees. The hottest month is July with average highs of 83 degrees and lows of 50.8. Although many homes and building sites have been constructed in the Valley during the last few years, the area is still a wilderness, the breeding, birthing, and feeding grounds of elk, deer, mountain lion, bobcat, black bear, coyote, and a variety of smaller animals and fish. The Valley is a global flyway for waterfowl, songbirds, as well as eagles, hawks, and owls. Through spring and midsummer, biting insects are abundant. Because of the bear and mountain lions, which are no longer hunted, a certain standard of precaution is advised for those who live and visit the area. Feeding wildlife is prohibited. Conservation of the natural habitats of native species is very important, as some of the Valley’s wildlife is rare and endangered.Throughout its history, people have been spellbound by the beauty of the San Luis Valley’s mountains and their high, wild places. Today, in the Crestone area, there are a number of ashrams and spiritual communities and the Valley is thought by many to be one of the most powerful centers of spiritual energy on earth. Yet, being in this environment presents those who settle here with the serious challenge of protecting wildlife and its home grounds from the harmful effects that we humans too often bring to wilderness areas. Generally, those who live in the Crestone area are keen to preserve the natural habitat that surrounds them and actively promote the conservation of natural resources and the advancement of environmentally sound design. Conservation and reverence for nature being an integral part of Shumei’s philosophy, Shumei strongly desires to play an active part in the preservation of the area in which it is creating the Shumei Crestone Center.

"Bamboo Heru"

Artist's comments:
"This piece was part of my Green City Gallery throw-down last Autumn. This mixed media piece is made from an enlarged black and white photocopy of an Osiris photo that I ripped from the web. Heru is the (sun) son of Osiris. So I literally drew Heru from Osiris. With green ink markers. Why green? Well... It was a green time. Heru's colors are known to be red and white, like Shango, but in this case I was picking up on the Green City Gallery thing along with the papyrus and bamboo plants growing around me in the Gallery as I vibed there.

In addition to the greenery and wild holographix of drawing with color inx on a b/w photo, another unusual detail about this representation of Heru is his pointed ears, which are a reference to Ptah, "The Elf God" of Egypt. (Yep. "Elf God". I have always been into elves. Right down to my own large pointy ears. Yes we do come in brown too. And no I am not a Drow!)

In Donald Mackenzie's The City of the Elf God Ptah is described as:
"an earth spirit, resembling closely the European elf."

Why does Ptah come into the mix, when Heru and Osiris bear the more logical connection?

Well, I'm still trying to figure that out.

I was (am?) a founding member of a small group of black artists in NY/NJ known as "The Guild of Ptah". We started that back in the late 90's during my study and practice of Egyptian spirituality. As a primordial creator deity, Ptah is a good one for artists to resonate with. In this case Ptah is just making Himself known. Look for more pointy Elfin ears in future works."

One Tuesday morning I made prayer and offerings to clear away my inner obstructions and nurture my highest expressions of courage and justice. Part of my observance involved face painting, inspired by the African Wodaabe tribe. Wodaabe men are known for their elaborate displays of body art and regalia. According to Wodaabe traditions, these ceremonial expressions of beauty are used to attract lovers.

Not looking for a lover per se, my adaptation of Wodaabe-esque facial paint was an expression of courage. First within, and then, outwardly as I walked to town wearing face paint. How long has it been since an African walked thru Crestone wearing sacred body art? Who knows. It must have been a dash of cultural cayenne for the folks in town. Too hot for some perhaps, though savoury to others.

Not war paint. Not a clown. Not for entertainment.
Raw regalia, spontaneous and in your face.

Shocking perhaps to some, fun to others.

For me it was simple Spirit-inspired work practice. Fun, challenging, revelatory and executed with the best of intent.

I received a long blank stare from one of the village matriarchs while shopping at the Mart. What was she thinkin? Hm.

"Cool!" one fella remarked before instigating a political conversation at the register.

Two people asked me to draw on their bodies. So I did. An unexpected opportunity to share the prayer.

Face paint ingedients included aloe vera gel, powderized pinon resin, cedar charcoal, non-toxic watercolor pencils and non-toxic gold and copper acrylics.

"The Egyptian goddess Neith has a reputation as both a military figure and as a mother goddess and nurse, characteristics that caused the Greeks to identify her with the goddess Athena. In Hebrew, Deborah means “Bee” and that symbol is closely identified with Neith. A Temple to Neith was called “House of the Bee”, and the Bee was the symbol of kingship in Lower Egypt.

Neith was one of Egypt’s oldest and most important deities. She was most prominent in the delta region of Sais, and her cult goes back to predynastic times. Her name appears as an element in the name of Queen Neithotep, who was married to either Narmer or Hor-Aha the founders of the first dynasty. The marriage of an Upper Egyptian warrior-king to a queen named after a prominent Lower Egyptian deity suggests to some scholars that the unification of Egypt may have begun with a military venture but ended with a diplomatic marriage.

Neith was mostly noted as a fierce warrior who had a strong domestic side to her. Although her symbol was a pair of crossed arrows over a shield, she was also identified as the patroness of weaving and as a mortuary goddess. Together with Isis, Nephthys, and Selket, she watched over Osiris’s bier. As patroness of weaving, the mummy shrouds and bandages used to wrap the deceased were thought of as her gift, permitting the deceased to partake of her divine power.

One of the features of Neith worship, according to Herodotus, was a great festival known as the Feast of Lamps, during which her devotees all through the night kept numerous lights burning."

The Greek statesman Solon (circa 638-558 BC) had visited Sais, Egypt, where the priest of Neith translated an account of Atlantis from hieroglyphs on the Temple of Neith. The origin of the Atlantis story must therefore be sought not in classical Greece, but at the very dawn of Egyptian history. Atlantis had already been lost beneath the waves at the time the hieroglyphs were inscribed. The Egyptian priests stated that the event occurred in remote antiquity and that they knew little about it themselves other than what was recorded at Neith.

<>Few remains have been found at Sais, yet this city is extensively referred to in early Egyptian sources. Sais was a very ancient city founded by the first Pharaoh of Egypt, called Aha in the Egyptian records and Menes by the historian Manetho. The construction of the Temple of Neith is also attributed to Pharaoh Aha. These hieroglyphs on the Temple of Neith would have been inscribed in the very earliest period of Egyptian history, under the first pharaoh or his immediate successor.

In Egyptian mythology, Neith (also known as Nit, Net, and Neit) was an early goddess in the Egyptian pantheon. She was the patron deity of Sais, where her cult was centered in the Western Nile Delta of Egypt and attested as early as the First Dynasty.^[1]. The Ancient Egyptian name of this city was Zau.

Neith also was one of the three tutelary deities of the ancient Egyptian southern city of Ta-senet or Iunyt now known as Esna (Arabic: إسنا), Greek: Λατόπολις (Latopolis)[1], or πόλις Λάτων (Polis Laton), or Λάττων (Laton); Latin: Lato), which is located on the west bank of the River Nile, some 55 km south of Luxor, in the modern Qena Governorate.

It is thought that Neith may correspond to the goddess Tanit (Ta-Nit), worshipped in north Africa by the early Berber culture (existing from the beginnings of written records) and through the first Punic culture originating from the founding of Carthage by Dido. Ta-nit, meaning in Egyptian the land of Nit, also was a heavenly goddess of war, a virginal mother goddess and nurse, and, less specifically, a symbol of fertility. Her symbol is remarkably similar to the Egyptian ankh and her shrine, excavated at Sarepta in southern Phoenicia, revealed an inscription that related her securely to the Phoenician goddess Astarte (Ishtar). Several of the major Greek goddesses also were identified with Tanit by the syncretic, interpretatio graeca, which recognized as Greek deities in foreign guise the deities of most of the surrounding non-Hellene cultures. A Hellenistic royal family ruled over Egypt for three centuries, a period called the Ptolemaic dynasty until the Roman conquest in 30 A.D.

Neith was a goddess of war and of hunting and had as her symbol, two crossed arrows over a shield. Her symbol also identified the city of Sais.^[2] This symbol was displayed on top of her head in Egyptian art. In her form as a goddess of war, she was said to make the weapons of warriors and to guard their bodies when they died.

Her name also may be interpreted as meaning, water. In time, this meaning led to her being considered as the personification of the primordial waters of creation. She is identified as a great mother goddess in this role as a creator.

Neith's symbol and part of her hieroglyph also bore a resemblance to a loom, and so later in the history of Egyptian myths, she also became goddess of weaving, and gained this version of her name, Neith, which means weaver. At this time her role as a creator changed from being water-based to that of the deity who wove all of the world and existence into being on her loom.

As a goddess of weaving and the domestic arts she was a protector of women and a guardian of marriage, so royal woman often named themselves after Neith, in her honour. Since she also was goddess of war, and thus had an additional association with death, it was said that she wove the bandages and shrouds worn by the mummified dead as a gift to them, and thus she began to be viewed as a protector of one of the Four sons of Horus, specifically, of Duamutef, the deification of the canopic jar storing the stomach, since the abdomen (often mistakenly associated as the stomach) was the most vulnerable portion of the body and a prime target during battle. It was said that she shot arrows at any evil spirits who attacked the canopic jar she protected.

In the late pantheon of the Ogdoad myths, she became identified as the mother of Ra and Apep. When she was identified as a water goddess, she was also viewed as the mother of Sobek, the crocodile.^[3] It was this association with water, i.e. the Nile, that led to her sometimes being considered the wife of Khnum, and associated with the source of the River Nile. She was associated with the Nile Perch as well as the goddess of the triad in that cult center.

As the goddess of creation and weaving, she was said to reweave the world on her loom daily.

The Greek historian, Herodotus (c. 484-425 BC), noted that the Egyptian citizens of Sais in Egypt worshipped Neith and that they identified her with Athena.^[4] Plato, in his Timaeus, a Socratic dialogue written circa 360 B.C., stated that Neith was the Greek goddess 'Athene' by another name, although historically they do not share the same origins. In the mid-twentieth century work, The Greek Myths (8.a ff.), Robert Graves expressed the suspicion that the worship of Neith was imported from near Lake Triton in Libya into Crete and then into Greece as the warrior goddess Athena at a very early date, perhaps as early as 3,500 BC.

Plutarch, who lived from circa 46 - 120 A.D., said the temple of Neith (of which nothing now remains) bore the inscription:

I am All That Has Been, That Is, and That Will Be.
No mortal has yet been able to lift the veil that covers Me.

In much later times, her association with war and death, led to her being identified with Nephthys (and Anouke or Ankt). Nephthys became part of the Ennead pantheon, and thus considered a wife of Set. Despite this, it was said that she interceded in the kingly war between Horus and Set, over the Egyptian throne, recommending that Horus rule.
